Zohran Mamdani Promises a 'Fresh Chapter' for The Big Apple in First Address
On his first day in office, Zohran Mamdani vowed to “reinvent” America's largest city, promising “a fresh chapter” and an audacious start to his tenure.
An Unprecedented Figure
The 34-year-old democratic socialist, who just a year ago remained a relatively obscure state assemblyman, is the city's first mayor of South Asian descent. He additionally marked a milestone by being the first to be take the oath of office using the Islamic holy text.

Mamdani concluded his remarks with a direct statement: “The work has only just begun.”
