The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
