It's tough for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a squad that has won it all.

The fact it required until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, taking back their record for the largest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to hold a record if not afforded the chance.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was captain Alyssa Healy being given a chance to create her latest masterpiece.

Originally famous as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

A T20 World Cup win happened three months after her debut and seven global championships have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "drove us to rethink our standards," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

If this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement is debatable.

Many contend the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was far harder to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it has been a frustrating experience because it appeared my form was missing completely," commented Healy.

"However when you take the field, your competitive instincts activate and you just lock into the match."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's motivation.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and from there the batsman was on her way.

"A chance to go out there and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that regard, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

Once she was out Australia needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I am glad we have the confidence to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, should it happen, we know we can succeed."

These statements will be the ultimate thing competing nations at this tournament need to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this victory following success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at an important competition.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing through the pain.

However although she later admitted those injuries have postponed plans to retire, this championship is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is hasn't yet secured an international tournament as skipper.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
