Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill corner leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
